TWE283001 - the tweeter from the Sonetto Center 1 loudspeaker of the famous Italian companySonus Faber.
The measurements were taken while modernization of two identical center channel loudspeakers to a stereo pair and are given for the best of the two tweeters. The HD measurements at voltage levels 2 - 4 Volt were carried out with High Pass Filter "on" (2nd order Butterworth type, 800 Hz cutoff, HPF2-800)
The tweeter has a very powerful neodymium motor, a 29mm dome fabric membrane produced by the German company Dr.Kurt Muller and proprietary D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) technology.
The essence of D.A.D. consists in fixing the top of the fabric dome with a needle fixed on an arc bracket above the dome in order to prevent its parasitic resonance at frequencies above 10 kHz. The idea is similar to those used in ring-radiator tweeters from Scan-Speak (R2904/7000) and SB Acoustics (SB29RDNC-C000-4), but implemented in a different way.
Both measured tweeters have a huge dip in the frequency response in the 10-20 kHz range. If this is the result of the D.A.D. technology, then, one asks, why is it needed at all? In any case, I did not notice any objective advantages from its use.
In addition, when the voltage is increased to 4 volts, both samples show a sharp increase in harmonic distortion, accompanied by audible parasitic sounds.
